First post on crushyourdayjob! It’s exciting to start a new venture, but it’s also bittersweet. I’m starting over with this Crushyourdayjob home based business tips blog because I made a terrible mistake one year ago.

For those readers who may be new to network marketing or wanting to learn internet marketing strategies for MLM, I must caution you to do things right the first time or you may find yourself where I sit today.

About a year ago, I pounced on a brand-new prelaunch network marketing company. I positioned myself as the top MLM distributor early. At the time, they had almost no web presence. I saw that as an opportunity and in many ways cashed in big time. I optimized my website so that now, a year later, I rank higher as a distributor than the company’s own corporate site.

When someone does a search about my “prelaunch network marketing company” (name withheld – more on that in a second), I am on the front page of organic google search on probably 20 or more variations of that company’s most important and competitive keywords. Well, I thought it was an awesome thing, but unfortunately the company did not.

My first tip and the entire reason for starting crushyourdayjob.com is:

#1. Most companies don’t want you using their name on your own personal websites. 

It may not be that way today, in fact if you join a new company, they might not have a whole lot of policies at all, but in today’s litigious society, it’s only a matter of time before they lawyer up and their legal consultants start to reign in internet promotion and product claims. To this end, I understand why the change, but take it from me, when you’ve spent an entire year optimizing a website and then you receive a cease and desist letter, it’s a sickening feeling, so my first piece of advice is to follow my lead and blog about yourself and the things you do to be a successful network marketer.

The other reason it is important to blog about yourself and not specifically about your company is because things change over time. If you haven’t noticed, companies in today’s economy close their doors for good quite often. If they haven’t been gobbled up by Longevity first [MLM inside joke ]

But honestly, companies close, they can piss you off and do you wrong, they’re organizations full of people, egos and like anything in life – can change at the drop of a hat. Speaking from experience, see above, there’s nothing more paralyzing than knowing you’ve done thousands of hours of work building and optimizing a network marketing blog about a new MLM company and are ranking high on dozens of keywords while hearing unfavorable news about goings on inside you’re company.

Honestly, it’s a sickening feeling and I’ve felt it. So, for this very reason, I highly encourage you NOT to optimize your site and focus its content on any individual company or product at all. Staying focused on yourself as a team leader and the winning strategies you’re using to grow your downline gives you the best chance for success in building a mlm downline.

#2. Find a free or low-cost internet marketing mentor

Network marketing is a people business and sometimes the thought of sitting behind a computer screen and having checks delivered to our mailbox each week is so enticing that we just want to go a bunch of internet work and we end up doing the wrong kinds of things. Finding someone with skills that are superior to yours and asking for help is the first thing you can do to get ahead. Let’s face it, there are hundreds of thousands of people out there looking to build a downline. There are probably thousands of people making huge incomes among them. Those folks want you! I want you! If you have initiative, drive and determination and are coachable, ask. However, you should know that if you don’t have what it takes, the big dogs might show you the door. Finding someone to partner with is crucial, but in order to partner with the best and get the best chances of succeeding in your MLM company, you’ve got to be ready to work. If I or someone else takes time away from our family or current team members to assist you in getting starts, you have to take action – today! Not next week, not in the future. You want to soak up information and then execute it. Doing this will show you’re worth the time. Showing that you’re worth the time to a top network marketing distributor is how to you can soon find yourself standing on the winner’s stage also.
